The Islander Trap team’s season has just kicked off, having their first meeting a few weeks back. The team meets every Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m., and Sundays 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Heartland Shooting Park.

GISH hosts its first robotics competition, Feb. 4

The robotics club at GISH has three competitive teams. These teams work on their robots after school during the week to prepare for competitions.
There are different objectives the robots, built by students, have to complete. First, the robots have to fit into parameters set by the competition. Only certain types of parts can be used and they can only be altered in specific ways.
Powerlifting team wins third at last meet, Jan. 28

The GISH powerlifting team just got back from a meet at Creighton Prep. They were one of six teams competing.
GISH Powerlifting members have been training since early first semester for their meets.This was their third and they will have the opportunity to go to state. For many of the athletes the competitions help keep them motivated in the gym.
Boxing in Nebraska

The boxing scene in Grand Island is alive and well. There are several clubs in town where fighters go to train for fitness and competition.
One local gym, Double R Boxing, has several up-and-coming fighters training and competing in local bouts.
Art department at GISH showcases students art pieces

Every year several art projects are created by classes in the art department. Right now, Kacey Lammers’s class is working on making sculptures.
Some have made sculptures of themselves, family members, random objects, and even horror movie characters.
The Northwest High School Saga publication has been brought to an abrupt halt after 54 years of student journalism; some students say the cause was homophobia.
