Interpreters Needed!

Nominate a Teacher

Students may nominate a teacher for teacher of the month by filling out this form:  https://forms.gle/eGnfw7WuSanGEvL38. Students must write the name of the teacher, choose the pathway that teacher is part of, and write why they chose this teacher.

Prom Requirements

  1. School Attendance- Students must have 3 or fewer unexcused absences to attend prom. Parent Request (PR) is considered an unexcused absence for dance eligibility.

What students need to bring to Prom:

  • Must bring a photo ID to attend
  • Must bring required Prom ticket in order to attend
  • Bags will NOT be allowed into the dance

Cheerleading Tryouts

GISH Cheerleading tryouts are starting soon. A parent meeting will be hosted in The Commons next Monday, Feb. 27 at 6 p.m. Any athletes who make the cheer team will be required to be in weights class next year. For more information visit https://gishcheerleading.gips.org/tryouts.

GISH Powerlifting

Members of the GISH powerlifting team will be competing at both Midland University, and Verdigre, NE this Saturday Feb 25.

2023 GISH Hiring fair

Senior High’s annual Hiring Fair will begin Thursday, March 30th from 10am – 1pm in the West Gym. Seniors and Juniors are highly encouraged to come and look at all of the different careers and opportunities being offered. Industries and organizations will be invited. They are looking for full-time or part-time (Summer) employees. Internship positions may also be available Please complete the attached survey by Monday, February 27th.


Show Chior Invitational

The Show Choir Invitational will be held in the Senior High auditorium on Saturday, Feb. 25 from 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Come enjoy singing and dancing by show choirs from around the state.

Boys Track and Field

Nebraska Native Youth Gathering

The Nebraska Native Youth Gathering will be held at the Norfolk Lifelong Learning Center. The gathering will take place on April 25 and 26. Day 1 will follow the conference schedule with breakout sessions covering career opportunities and cultural speakers. Day 2 will be constructed in a workshop format.


Youth Leadership Tomorrow

The Youth Leadership Tomorrow is looking for sophomore applicants, and the Youth Philanthropy Board is a two year program that is looking for juniors. The goal of Youth Leadership Tomorrow and Philanthropy Board is to give community education and leadership development to students. By providing experience to students, it will allow them to become better decision makers, problem solvers, and leaders in the future.

Powerlifting Team

The Islander powerlifting team will be competing at the state powerlifting championships at Midland University. The boys competition will be on Feb. 25, and the girls on Feb. 26.

Guest Speakers

Every Monday at 11:15 the Medical Academy will be hosting guest speakers talking about career and education opportunities. You can join them in room 306.

!Cap and Gown!

The year is not quite over, but graduation is just around the corner for the class of 2023. In order to participate in the graduation ceremony, students who are graduating will need to purchase a new cap and gown unit for $40. The set includes a cap, a gown, a tassel, and a diploma. Students who are not participating in the ceremony will still need to fill out an order form for their diploma, which costs $20. Payments for caps and gowns are due March 2, 2023. Mrs. Hernandez is taking orders and payments in the West Office.


Girls Track and Field

Pre-season track and conditioning will begin Wednesday, January 4. Throwers will meet at 6:30 in the East Gym. Sprinters, middle distance, hurdles, long jump, triple jump, and high jump will meet at 3:45 at Hulas. Long-distance runners will need to check in with Coach Ramsey and pole vaulters will check in with Coach Simmons. Stop by room 117 if you have any questions or email Coach Ramsey.

Quiz Bowl

Grand Island Senior High is hosting a quiz bowl. Students may sign up for the quiz bowl in the Media Center until the end of the semester. If more information is needed email @Max Funkey

Esports, League of Legends, & Rocket League

The school’s Esports team for League of Legends, Rocket League, and Valorant is hosting meetings on Mondays and Wednesdays after school from 4pm till 6pm in the Success Academy. For more information contact @GIPS Esports


Islander Football Team

The Islander football team has had a great season this year. They have an overall record of 9-3, and a 3-1 record in districts.

Hunters Safety Class

ACT Exam

!Attention seniors who are planning on retaking the ACT! Log onto act.org to sign up for upcoming Saturday exams. If you qualify for Free/Reduced lunch your test fee is waived so make sure you talk to your counselors and ask for a waiver.

 Academy Ambassadors

GISH is looking for new academy ambassadors. An email has been sent out with the link to apply. An ambassador’s job is to represent the academies by giving tours, hosting events, and meeting with business partners. Contact Nicki Stoltenberg at nstoltenberg@gips.org if you have any questions.

Science Explore Club

Science Olympiad practices have begun for the Science Explore Club! If you are interested in talking science, they meet in room 621 every Thursday from 3:45-6:00 p.m.

Unified Bowling

If you are interested in joining the Unified Bowling team please fill out this form. Bowlers will need to be in groups of two (partners) and must be positive role models for athletes in Unified Bowling. Practices have already started but email csilva@gips.org if you want to join or have any questions.


Chess Club

Interested in learning how to play chess? Join fellow chess players in room 208 for an hour after school every Monday. FBIC Club

Why is money called dough? Because we all knead it! The Future Billionaires Investment Club (FBIC)  is now open for students interested in learning about financial investments. Contact Mr. Hartel at ehartel@gips.org or stop by room 544 to sign up. 

ASP Program

Do you need help with homework or need a quiet place to study? Well, you’re in luck. The After School Program (ASP) is now available. They run sessions Monday-Thursday from 3:45 to 6 p.m. teaching math, English, history, and more. Stop by the library after school anytime you need help.
