Islanders Place at State Skills USA, Qualify Two for Nationals

The Islanders competed at the 2024 Nebraska State SkillsUSA Leadership and Skills Conference in Grand Island earlier this month.

Students who are awarded first place also qualify for nationals in Atlanta June 24-28, 2024. The Islanders who qualified for the National Leadership & Skills Conference are Sydnee Davis and Theo Merchant.

GISH Recognizes 15th Cohort of First Generation Scholars of the UNL College Preparatory Academy

Before graduation, another seminal Spring ceremony took place for 18 Grand Island Senior High (GISH) Seniors that propelled them towards their next chapters.  Last Wednesday evening, the Nebraska College Preparatory Academy (NCPA) hosted its annual Senior Recognition Ceremony at the Bosselman Conference Center putting a bow on the program’s year at GISH.

Art, a doorway to imagination, a reflection of society, and a universal language that connects us all. 

With music playing, the Arts Now Grant Show took place the evening of April 25, in the foyer of the GISH auditorium. An original musical composition written by senior Kevin Parra Vazquez was performed during the show, as colorful lighting bathed works of art on display. 

Richardson Leads Win

Persistence pays off for the GISH girls varsity soccer team, as they defeat Lincoln Northeast 4-3 on April 17, during the Heartland Athletic Conference Girls Soccer Tournament for the team’s first win of the season.
Even though the team’s record now stands at 1-11, GISH has some good players, including sophomore forward Caprice Richardson, who scored two of the team’s four goals against Lincoln Northeast. She is the team’s leading scorer with five goals so far this season.

GISH Announces 2024 Academic Honor Students

 Grand Island Senior High (GISH), in collaboration with the Grand Island Public Schools Foundation and Home Federal Bank, recognized the highest achieving graduating seniors as Academic Aristocrats. The annual GISH Academic Honors Night welcomed a full crowd of family, friends, teachers, and honored students last evening at the Senior High auditorium.
